Professor Bambu

Born and raised in apartheid South Africa, our Professor Bambu is a strong advocate for preserving the African origins of capoeira and its roots is freedom and anti-colonial struggles. Bambu has over 25 years of Capoeira experience. He began his capoeira journey in Omaha, Nebraska in 1999 with Capoeira Angola Palmares. In 2002, he began studying under Mestre Gulliver. Today, he teaches and studies under the guidance of Mestre Lazaro. Additionally, he is career educator whose pedagogy is rooted in liberation.

Mestre Lazaro has over 30 years of teaching experience in Capoeira. He currently resides in Alto do São Francisco, Boca do Rio neighborhood. He is the son of Maria José Pereira dos Prazeres and Joime Bispo dos Santos.
In 1976, he started in capoeira under the guidance of Mestre Zel at Dona Marta's house, Aginelo de Brito street, Boca do Rio neighborhood. Years later he continued to teach capoeira with Mestre Dalmo on Rua Imiliano Galiza, where the mestre had his space and taught capoeira classes. Mestre Dalmo was a student of Mestre No. Mestre Lazaro also trained directly with Mestre No for a significant portion of his career.
