Capoeira is an art of liberation; an expression of African and Brazilian cultures formed during the time of African enslavement in Brazil. The art was used by enslaved Africans to liberate themselves from physical, mental, and spiritual bondage. We stand in solidarity with liberations movements that intend to enlighten the human spirit.

WHAT IS CAPOEIRA

Welcome to the TUCSON ANGOLA GROUP. We are a unique experience that gives students the opportunity to study in two capoeira traditions. We offer classes in the lineages of Mestre Lazaro (Angola Guerreiros De Palmares) and Mestre Amen (Batuque Capoeira). Both traditions are based out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. This is a school where you can explore the expression of your body and your voice.  Our classes focus on physical and mental development and cultivating thoughtful and ethical players/human beings. We approach Capoeira as a game to be played between friends. We value inclusivity, justice, and balance in all things. Finally, we believe Capoeira should be made available to all and that one's financial status should not limit one's access.
